I. Remember death, O Christian soul
Remember thou art dust,
That to the mud thou shalt return
And all thy gold shall rust.
II. Remember death, O Christian soul
Thy fate hath been set firm,
Thy body fair and comely now
But food for rot and worm.
III. Remember death, O Christian soul
Thy name shall be forgot,
And empires, titles, treasures fair
Will all avail thee naught.
IV. Remember death, O Christian soul
Thou but a passing bloom,
A morning grass at evening gone
Shall be thy certain doom.
V. Remember death, O Christian soul
Thy judgement day await,
Account for every word and deed
In earnest or in vain.
VI. Remember death, O Christian soul
Thy life now well acquit,
Thy sin despise, His grace embrace
That He might see thee fit.
VII. Remember death, O Christian soul
And thus do live thy life,
Thy God do serve, thy neighbor love,
To paradise arrive.
